We're so lucky to have such a beautiful location for our Mull Soap Shop. We look out over the beautiful and colourful Tobermory Bay. The view from our windows is constantly changing with the weather, tides, and boats coming and going. Those who've visited Scotland will know that the weather changes frequently and it's not unusual to get several seasons in one day! Here's a selection of photos, taken by us, from just across the road from our shop.
Occasionally the sea fog will sit in the Sound of Mull - a narrow stretch of water separating the North of Mull with the Scottish Mainland. A tell tell sign being the ship's fog horns during the night! The fog does sometimes creep into the bay as you can see here...
We have a fairly big tidal range here in Tobermory. We've recently had a new sea wall and tidal defences put in. If a particularly high spring tide coincides with a storm surge there's a risk of the sea water breaching the wall and flooding the shop. Since we bought the premises we have luckily only once had the water lapping at the shop door, thanks to sandbags! On a very low tide, it's sometimes just possible to walk around the Fisherman's Pier, or even take a stroll over to Calve Island.
Those lovely Summer evenings - when it doesn't really get dark at all. Plenty of opportunity for adventures and BBQs after work. This photo was taken on a particularly special night during covid.
May 6th 2020. A beautiful moon over Tobermory Bay. Taken around 10pm after yet another evening working late. This full moon marked the day we received our 1000th online order since we had to close our shop doors during lockdown.
We were so grateful for every single online order throughout that time.
In contrast to the light summer nights, during the winter it gets dark around closing time, at 4pm. Winters have their own charm here on Mull - chilly, but quiet and stunning. These photos with beautiful reflections in the water are taken after locking up for the night.
Lucky for us, our shop faces the East.....
A reminder of the Balamory Days! Do you remember the TV show? We regularly see beautiful rainbows in Tobermory Bay. Double ones too!
We welcome many visitors by sea each summer. We have our regulars such as the Hebridean Princess and Lord of the Glens aswell as the much bigger Cruise Liners with well over a thousand passengers. The larger ones anchor just outside, or if there's no wind, in the Bay itself, and run tenders ashore to and from the pontoons. Tobermory is a well protected harbour and we often provide shelter for ships and yachts during bad weather.
We're fortunate to have a bench right across the street from our Shop. The perfect spot to take a break, enjoy a coffee and appreciate how lucky we are to live and work in such a beautiful place.
